The #1000euros Experiment from Joan Boluda

Last Friday, 6th November, in Spain a hashtag by Joan Boluda got viral on Twitter in just 1 hour and stayed viral for the rest of the day.

Joan Boluda (@joanboluda), a user with just 1.500 followers, basically managed to become a Trending Topic just because he was giving away 1.000€ to one of the users who would post the hashtag #1000euros and the username @joanboluda.

The interesting thing about this event and why we dedicate a whole article about it is the fact that Joan Boluda had the brilliant idea of creating an experiment where he would compare the results or achievements of paying Twitter 1.000€ with the results of doing a competition giving 1.000€ away.

How this experiment ended is very interesting indeed!

When in October Joan Boluda invested 1.000€ in Twitter, he got 272.000 impressions and 450 clicks on the webpage. That means each click cost him 2.22€.

Last Friday, by giving away 1.000€ Joan Boluda’s webpage achieved 8.000 visits, that means each click cost him 0.125€, 17 times cheaper than investing that money on Twitter! On top of it, 10 people subscribed to his online course, generating a 100€/month revenue.

I bet that’s a lot to think about!

More important about the results of this competition is the fact that it didn’t just end on a Trending Topic, a 100€ and a few clicks on his webpage: he built a great reputation in just a few hours.

Radio and TV programs in Spain talked about him that day and during the weekend and they even called him asking him for an interview. He was even called by a CEO that asked for his help for a 6 month Marketing Strategy.
